The Netherlands

We landed in Amsterdam, excited for the adventure ahead. With our rental car, we left the bustle of the city and ventured into the Dutch countryside. Our first stop was the De Haar Castle, a stunning fairytale-like structure that gave us a taste of the grandeur of Dutch history. We followed up with a tour of the historic Muiderslot Castle, feeling like we had stepped back in time.

The day ended with a scenic drive to Giethoorn in the province of Overijssel, where we settled into a charming Airbnb nestled right by a canal. The peaceful atmosphere, gentle lapping of water, and the sight of small boats gliding by made it the perfect end to our first day.

Morning in Giethoorn was pure magic. We walked leisurely to town, savoring coffee and freshly made stroopwafels by the canal. The town's charm lay in its quiet beauty—quaint shops, historic sites, and delicious pastries. We couldn’t resist a boat tour, drifting through the waterways while taking in the storybook views of this unique "Venice of the North."

The next day, we drove to Leeuwarden, where we explored the Blockhuisport, a former prison turned cultural hotspot, now housing small shops and cafés. It was an unexpected and delightful glimpse into Dutch creativity and the reuse of historical spaces. After exploring the city, we made our way to the Eise Eisinga Planetarium, the oldest working planetarium in the world.

Our day ended with a scenic drive to Marken, a small fishing island. Dinner was a true taste of the sea—traditional fish and chips enjoyed by the water, with the serene sounds of waves and fishing boats as our backdrop.

Breakfast was a delicious spread of traditional Dutch pastries at a local bakery before we set off for Madurodam, a miniature park showcasing the most iconic sites of the Netherlands. From there, we traveled to Delft to tour Royal Delft, famous for its delicate blue and white ceramics. Our day ended in Rotterdam, where we marveled at the quirky and modern Cube Houses and enjoyed dinner inside the bustling Markthal, a culinary and architectural delight.

We devoted the morning to the iconic windmills of Kinderdijk, a UNESCO World Heritage site. The sight of these historic windmills standing against the open sky was breathtaking, and the tour was both educational and awe-inspiring. From there, we returned our rental car and took the train into Amsterdam, checking into a hotel with a view over Rembrandtplein. Amsterdam’s lively atmosphere awaited us.

Our day began with a breakfast of Dutch pastries, setting the tone for a day of cultural exploration. We started with the Van Gogh Museum, getting lost in the vibrant colors and powerful emotions of his work. The next stop was the poignant Anne Frank House, a humbling reminder of history. We continued our art-filled journey at the Rijksmuseum, admiring masterpieces and immersing ourselves in the rich Dutch artistic heritage.

Our last day in Amsterdam was all about soaking up the city's unique spirit. We visited the Flower Market, vibrant and fragrant with tulips of every color. At Dam Square, we watched the world go by, soaking in the energy of the city. A canal boat tour was the perfect way to wrap up our journey, offering a peaceful and scenic perspective of Amsterdam's iconic waterways. A final stroll through Vondelpark ended our trip with a moment of tranquility amidst the urban charm.
